Transparency International Zambia (TI-Z) – Privacy Statement

1) Who we are

Transparency International Zambia (TI-Z) (“we”, “us”, “our”) is the data controller for personal data we collect and use through our services and platforms.

We process personal data in line with the Data Protection Act, No. 3 of 2021 (Zambia) and guidance from the Data Protection Commission. (Parliament of Zambia)

3) Why we use your data (purposes)

We use personal data to:

  • Provide and improve TI-Z services, programmes, and communications.
  • Respond to enquiries, manage requests, and provide support.
  • Receive and manage reports/complaints, and conduct assessments or referrals where appropriate.
  • Organise events, trainings, and outreach activities.
  • Conduct research, policy work, advocacy, monitoring, learning, and reporting (including aggregated statistics).
  • Maintain platform security, prevent misuse, and detect fraud/cyber threats.
  • Meet legal, regulatory, audit, and governance obligations.

We process your personal data only where we have a lawful basis, which may include:

  • Consent (e.g., subscriptions, optional surveys, certain communications).

We understand that many interactions with TI-Z can be sensitive. We take reasonable steps to:

  • Limit access to personal data to authorised staff/consultants on a need-to-know basis.
  • Use secure storage and access controls (e.g., passwords, role-based permissions).
  • Apply confidentiality practices when handling reports and supporting documents.
  • Minimise collection and sharing of identifying details where possible.

6) When we share your data

We do not sell personal data.

We may share personal data only when necessary, including with:

  • Service providers who help us run our operations (e.g., hosting, email, analytics, security, event tools) under appropriate safeguards.
  • Partners and funders only in aggregated or anonymised form where possible; if identifiable data is required, we will do so only where lawful and necessary.
  • Authorities or relevant bodies where we are legally required to do so, or where referral is requested/appropriate and lawful.
