In 2024, the Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre (ALAC) at Transparency International Zambia (TI-Z) recorded a total of 211 reports, out of which 144 were corruption-related. The most commonly reported issues included maladministration, abuse of function, embezzlement, and fraud.
Key highlights from the 2024 report:
- Local authorities were the most affected institutions, particularly in land-related matters such as issuing licenses and property registration.
- Sectors most impacted by corruption included land and real estate, public administration, education, and health.
- The most commonly affected processes were service delivery, license issuance, and beneficiary selection under public programs like the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and Social Cash Transfer.
- Lusaka, Southern, and Copperbelt provinces accounted for the highest number of reports.
- Transparency Action Groups (TAGs) played a crucial role in facilitating community reporting and engagement.
ALAC continues to offer free legal advice and support to whistleblowers and citizens, while also working closely with law enforcement agencies to push for accountability and justice in corruption cases.
