Transparency International Zambia and the Embassy of Sweden in Zambia signed a three and a half year partnership agreement this morning at the TI-Z offices in Jesmondine, Lusaka to support TI-Z’s five-year strategy.
The Embassy of Sweden has been an all-weather partner and supporter of TI-Z since 2018, and in the last 6 years, has supported the institution with core support to grow and evolve as an organisation.
“It is my pleasure and honour to address you all today and give remarks on behalf of Transparency International Zambia (TI-Z) on this auspicious occasion marking the continuation of a great partnership between the Embassy of Sweden and TI-Z,” Priscilla Chansa, TI-Z Chapter President said in her keynote speech.
The TI-Z 2023 – 2027 Strategic Plan, which is also referred to as Strategy 2027, was developed at an opportune time when a new government had been ushered in and a new strategy 2030 for Transparency International had been launched. Both developments provide an opportunity for the institution to reflect on and plan new strategic directions in order to fully align and remain relevant.
This Strategy 2027 is not only about building on the successes of the past, but also about addressing current and future challenges of corruption. This strategy will enable TI-Z to transform into a High Performance Organisation and one that is a leader in its field.
“I take all the more pleasure from being here, as this signing ceremony marks one of first agreements we enter into since the adoption of Sweden’s new strategy for development cooperation with Zambia for 2024-2028,” said Susanna Hughes, Acting Ambassador to Sweden and Head of Corporation at the Embassy of Sweden.
“The fact that this support is first priority, is a testament to the importance Sweden attaches to the promotion of good governance and the reduction of corruption in Zambia.”
In this current strategy, the institution aspires to see citizens and communities taking action and actively engaged in the fight against corruption. It aspires for young people, the youth, women and marginalised groups to be more visible in the anti-corruption fight.
In this new strategy, TI-Z also aspires to provide safe mechanisms for citizens to report corruption and affirm our commitment to support victims of corruption. It hopes to strengthen institutions of governance including those related to elections and law enforcement.
It is the hope of the institution that these aspirations will be realised with the resources and support committed by the Embassy of Sweden on this occasion. TI-Z’s work will undoubtedly benefit the Zambian citizenry – the women, men and children who seek to live in a corrupt-free country.
